The Kambe team recently delivered the magical day event, Wonderland, for the employee-owned company Childbase Partnership. Transforming Herts County Showground into an immersive and surreal dreamland, brought to life with walkabout performers, sustainable décor, themed venues and world class entertainment. Wonderland was also the first greenfield event held in the UK to be completely free from disposable serveware!
The employee-owned Childbase Partnership is on a mission to give children the best possible start in life. Providing state of the art innovative learning through play programmes across their 45 nurseries, fun is an essential ingredient in their childcare and education. To celebrate the extraordinary colleagues responsible for Childbase’s success all the staff were invited to Wonderland: a day event consisting of an AGM, conference and awards ceremony, followed by a staff party like no other!
Staff were welcomed at the gates by the Mad Hatter and friends, before heading towards Coco’s Lounge for a day of speeches, awards, recognition and celebration with entertainment from Little Mix and Bruno Mars tribute bands. As the sun began to set things got curiouser and curiouser as guests were invited to explore all this outlandish world had to offer. Stumbling down the secret Rabbit Hole, having a tipple at the Drink Me Bar, relaxing with a hot drink in the Magic Teapot, setting up glamp in the luxury bell tents in Alice’s Fields and heading into Wonderland, the main venue, for a night of top-secret, world class music! The Wonderland stage saw the likes of Tynchy Stryder, Scouting For Girls, Fatman Scoop and Basement Jaxx as the Childbase team danced and sang their way late into the night.
Along with providing a fantastical and top-class event, here at Kambe sustainability is always a priority and Wonderland was no exception. We were proud to successfully host the first UK greenfield event entirely free from disposable serveware.
By only providing reusable serveware for all food and drinks for the 1000 attendees, we saved 241.5kg of waste from going to landfill, which is the equivalent of 468.6kg of C02e!
If larger events were to follow suit, this has the potential to revolutionise the future of catering at outdoor events and festivals by severely reducing the amount of waste produced in our industry.
Working alongside Childbase Partnership this year was an absolute pleasure, and we’re so proud of our Kambe family for producing such an incredibly experiential and groundbreakingly sustainable event.
